CROSSROADS M.B. CHURCH
"Teaching, Preaching and Preparing People for the Kingdom of God"
OUR HISTORY
Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church was foudned in December 2012 by Dr. Stanley Smith and a small group of others dedicated to doing God's will by praising and worsipping Him. The group met at Grove Park Communicty Center, established several ministries and elected officers for the Executive Board. During that meeting a total of $74.00 was collected. Fifty dollars was used to incorporate the church in the name of "Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church" with Dr. Stanley Smith as the founding Pastor. The remaining $24.00 was the amount of the Church's original treasury fund after incorporation. Thus, the significance of the $24.00 offering request from members and friends during anniversary celebrations.
During that meeting on a cold December day, members had no idea of where they would be located, however, Pastor Smith assured them that the first service for Crossroads would be held the first Sunday in January, and so it was. With the assistance of members like Brother Jobie Martin who knew someone, Crossroads prepared to have its first service in the old Masonic Temple building located at the corner of Capital and Monument Streets. Brother Martin helped secure the building and the cleaning process began. the lights didn't work. A friend of several members of Church, Brother Ken Alexander, a licensed electrician along with a group of his friends replaced the lighting, no charge. There wer no chairs, First Lady Smith worked it out so that chairs were rented at a minima lcost. Members and friends pledged to buy chairs and then the Church had its own chairs. There was no pulpit, Brother Tox built the puplit and delivered it early Sunday Morning. The first pulpit has great significance and will forever be wherever the Church is located. The first service for the newly founded Crossroads Missionary Baptist church was held January 01, 2012. The Church soon came to be known as the "Little Church in the Big Building at the crossroads."
The Church is now located at 325 E. McDowell Rd. Pastor Smith continuously makes the statement "We started at the bottom, now we here!"
